2023 MGREP GRADUATE RESEARCH INTERNSHIP IN MEXICO  

OVERVIEW
The short-term stays aim for UCI School of Engineering, SoE, scholars at the University of California Irvine to accomplish specific laboratory, and field research at partner institutions in Mexico. Students must be actively engaged in scholarly or scientific activities at a SoE research lab, emphasizing using the stay to advance research and academic development.
The scope of the research activities should focus on topics that are of mutual interest to UCI and the Mexico institution.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to University of California Irvine School of Engineering graduate students who meet the following requirements:
1) Enrolled in a master’s or doctoral-level program.
2) Continuous enrollment in their program for at least one year by the time the proposed stay begins.
3) In good academic standing.
This program is ideal for students who completed their required coursework and/or have advanced to candidacy.

UCI graduate students must be hosted by a faculty member or researcher who holds a full-time appointment at the host institution in Mexico. All applicants must provide an invitation letter from the host institution to undertake a short-term stay and a project plan approved by their UCI SoE faculty advisor and Mexico’s host institution. Short-term stays at host institutions may last up to 8 weeks but not less than 6 months.

AWARD
Funds should be used to cover local living expenses, short-term health insurance (if not enrolled in UC SHIP during the term of the stay), one round-trip travel to and from the host institution, and visa fees. The total amount of the grant is 5,000 USD.
