May 26–30, 2025 | University of California, Irvine
“This May 26 to May 30, the Mexico Graduate Research and Education Program (MGREP) proudly hosted its 2025 Binational Colloquium for Interdisciplinary STEM Research Excellence at the University of California, Irvine. This landmark event brought together distinguished faculty, researchers, and graduate students from institutions across the United States and Mexico to spark new ideas, forge lasting collaborations, and co-develop innovative research strategies.
The aspiration of this inaugural UCI-MGREP gathering was to enrich research collaboration of equal benefit across borders. Through intensive interdisciplinary informative sessions, participants formed dynamic working teams to begin drafting seed proposals for innovative projects of binational impact. These projects are designed to be time-sensitive, conceptually unique, and founded on effective teamwork—key elements for sustainable scientific advancement.
One of the colloquium’s defining features was its inclusive, dialogue-driven format, encouraging open participation, idea-sharing, and collective brainstorming. Attendees were invited to think and express freely, share atypical or disruptive ideas, and contribute to a collective vision for impactful research. The event fostered a spirit of supportive and constructive debate, setting the stage for a level playing field for rewarding work.
We were especially honored to welcome professors from a wide range of Mexican universities, whose active engagement and leadership were central to the success of this gathering. Their contributions, alongside their UCI research counterparts, enriched discussions and laid the foundation for a better-networked U.S.-Mexico academic community—one more likely to produce regionally technological and economic impactful outcomes.
As MGREP continues to grow, events like this colloquium represent our unwavering commitment to binational cooperation, STEM excellence, and the creation of equitable academic opportunities. We look forward to sustaining this important work and seeing the fruits of this gathering materialize into transformative research that bridges borders and disciplines alike.
Keep in touch for updates on upcoming MGREP events and openings for seed funding opportunities.
Enjoy this summer!”
