The Mexico Graduate Research and Education Program (MGREP) is proud to recognize Margarita Rivera, one of our outstanding members, who completed a prestigious internship at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) through the highly competitive Maximizing Student Potential in STEM (MSP) Program.

During her internship, Margarita made significant contributions to wildfire research and prevention under the mentorship of Dr. Madeleine Pascolini-Campbell. Her work focused on two groundbreaking projects:

  • Predicting Wildfire Severity and Active Fire Tracking
Developed advanced computational models to analyze and predict wildfire behavior, enhancing real-time monitoring capabilities.
  • Assessing Wildfire Prevention with Remote Sensing
Utilized satellite data and geospatial analysis to evaluate and improve wildfire mitigation strategies.

Margarita’s achievements highlight MGREP’s mission to cultivate exceptional researchers and provide them with opportunities to engage in high-impact scientific work. Her success at JPL underscores the potential of MGREP members to contribute meaningfully to global challenges through innovation and collaboration.

The Mexico Graduate Research and Education Program (MGREP) is dedicated to advancing scientific research and education by empowering the next generation of Mexican scholars and professionals in STEM fields.

Stay tuned for more breakthroughs from our team!
